My Story

My venture into photography begun six years ago, not too long after welcoming my beautiful horse, Apollo, into my life.

Having my own horse was a dream I'd had for as long as I can remember - and so it didn't take much for me to absolutely and utterly fall in love with him the moment he entered my life. Only a few months later, I fell in love with photography, too.

It had started with a simple gift - a few days before my first Christmas with Apollo, a woman that sometimes visited the property he was kept on handed me a card. It was handmade, thick black paper that had been folded over, with a short message inside written with white ink. Glued on top of the front of the card, though, was the most beautiful photo I'd ever seen. It was a portrait shot of Apollo, taken in the warm light of a summers evening with her DSLR camera. It was clear but soft, and she had captured him perfectly.

I'd never had a photo that nice of Apollo before - and as instantly as I fell in love with it, I wished for more. I wished that I could take more of him just like it, to have an endless supply of beautiful memories of my furry friend that I loved so much.

The following year, after much research of brands and cost, I bought my very first DSLR camera, and set to work teaching myself how to use it. There was a lot to learn and understand, but at that stage, taking photos for other people or doing it professionally had never crossed my mind. I just wanted beautiful photos of my beloved horse.

As time passed, and I gained a little more confidence with my camera and love for photography, I started taking photos for my friends, too - I remembered how special that first photo was to me, and I wanted to give them the same thing, too. The more photos I took and the more I learned, the more I wanted to take more. Every image was a memory to be cherished, a moment in time impossible to forget.

Today, photography is a bigger part of my life than it ever has been, and I can't imagine doing anything else but capturing the memories that mean so much to us all.

A little more about me

Here is a little something that not too many people know about me - I'm Neurodivergent! Funnily enough, up until recently, I didn't know this about myself, either.

Some of you might be wondering: What does Neurodivergent mean?

It means that my brain is a little bit different and I have a different neurotype to most people. In 2021, I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. At first, this took me some time to process and come to terms with, but now it is something I am just about as passionate about as I am with photography! I have come to realise that it is due to these differences in how I process the world around me that I am able to take photos and edit images the way I do, and that it is a big contributing factor in my creativity and how I see the world through my lens.

Living with this disability (although there are so many positives to it!) can certainly often make life difficult sometimes, though, so being a photographer and having my own business allows me a flexibility that can make a huge positive impact on my life - and so I am incredibly appreciative of my clients that contribute to me being able to do what I love so much. If you have supported me in the past or are thinking about working with me in the future, please know how much it means to me that you have done so!

With love,

Tay.
